Motorhome Hire in Hull
Around 55 minutes from our Pontefract depot, Hull is a city of maritime heritage, cultural ambition, and gateway to the Holderness coast.
Discover Hull
Hull is a city that has always looked outward. Perched at the point where the River Hull meets the mighty Humber Estuary, it has been a fishing port, a whaling centre, a trading hub, and — most recently — the UK City of Culture 2017. That title transformed the city's sense of itself, and the energy it generated continues to pulse through Hull's galleries, streets, and waterfront. At approximately 55 minutes from our Pontefract depot, Hull is a rewarding destination and an excellent launchpad for a motorhome adventure along the East Yorkshire coast.
The city's Old Town is the place to start. Centred on the cobbled Trinity Square and the imposing Hull Minster, this quarter contains the Wilberforce House Museum — birthplace of William Wilberforce and a powerful telling of the story of the abolition of slavery. The nearby Streetlife Museum recreates 200 years of transport history, while the Hull and East Riding Museum covers the region's past from prehistoric times. All three are free to enter, which speaks to Hull's democratic spirit.
The Deep, designed by Sir Terry Farrell, is one of the most striking aquariums in the world. Its angular form juts out into the Humber at the eastern end of the Old Town, and inside you will find over 3,500 marine creatures, including sharks, rays, and a colony of Gentoo penguins. The viewing tunnel beneath the main tank is a genuinely mesmerising experience. The surrounding waterfront area, with its marina and converted warehouses, makes for a pleasant afternoon stroll.
Hull's Fruit Market area has become the city's creative quarter. Former warehouses now house studios, galleries, craft breweries, and some of the best independent restaurants in the region. Stage@TheDock, an open-air performance venue beside the marina, hosts live music, comedy, and community events throughout the summer months.
From Hull, a motorhome opens up the entire East Yorkshire coastline. Head north along the A165 and within 30 minutes you reach Hornsea, a quiet resort town with a long sandy beach and the Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire. Continue north and you reach Bridlington, with its harbour, promenade, and the dramatic chalk headland of Flamborough. The RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs, where hundreds of thousands of seabirds nest on the sheer white cliffs each spring and summer, is one of the most spectacular wildlife sites in England.
To the south of Hull, the Holderness peninsula stretches toward Spurn Point, a three-mile sand spit curling into the Humber Estuary. This is one of the most dynamic coastlines in Europe, constantly reshaped by erosion and deposition. The area is a haven for birdwatchers, particularly during the autumn migration when rare species regularly turn up. The villages along the coast — Withernsea, Easington, Kilnsea — have a quiet, end-of-the-road atmosphere that is perfect for motorhome touring.
Inland, the Yorkshire Wolds rise gently westward from Hull. These chalk hills, celebrated by David Hockney in his vivid landscape paintings, offer rolling farmland, quiet lanes, and long-distance walking along the Wolds Way. Market Weighton, Pocklington, and Driffield are pleasant Wolds towns with local pubs that welcome touring visitors.
The M62 connects Hull directly to Pontefract and our depot, making collection and return straightforward. Whether you are heading north to the coast, south to Spurn, or west into the Wolds, Hull is a city that deserves more than a passing glance — and a motorhome gives you the freedom to explore every corner of its remarkable surroundings.
