Motorhome Hire in Beverley
Approximately 50 minutes from our depot, Beverley is one of England's finest market towns — with its stunning Minster and the Yorkshire Wolds on its doorstep.
Discover Beverley
Beverley is regularly described as one of the finest market towns in England, and it is easy to see why. Its twin glories — the Minster and the Saturday Market — have been drawing visitors for centuries, and the town's mix of medieval architecture, independent shops, and genuine community spirit gives it a warmth that is hard to manufacture. At approximately 50 minutes from our Pontefract depot, Beverley is a beautiful starting point for a motorhome trip through the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Beverley Minster is the undisputed centrepiece. This Gothic church, often described as the finest parish church in England, was built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries and rivals many cathedrals in both scale and beauty. The Percy Tomb, the medieval misericords, and the stunning Great East Window make it a place of genuine artistic importance. Entry is free, though donations are welcomed, and the atmosphere inside is one of hushed reverence that transcends any particular faith.
The Saturday Market, held in the cobbled square that has served as a market place for over 800 years, is one of the best in Yorkshire. Local producers sell everything from artisan bread and charcuterie to flowers, vintage clothing, and handmade crafts. The Wednesday market is smaller but equally enjoyable. The market cross at the centre of the square, the Georgian shop fronts around its edges, and the tower of St Mary's Church rising behind them create a scene that feels timeless.
St Mary's Church, at the northern end of the town, is a significant building in its own right. Its ceiling paintings of English kings, its Romanesque doorway, and its connections to Lewis Carroll — who is said to have been inspired by the pilgrim rabbit carving inside — make it well worth a visit. The Westwood, an expanse of common land on the western edge of Beverley, is grazed by cattle and offers open views across to the Minster. Beverley Racecourse occupies part of the Westwood, and race days bring a festive atmosphere to the town.
From Beverley, a motorhome gives you access to the best of East Yorkshire with remarkable ease. The Yorkshire Wolds begin just to the north and west of the town, their rolling chalk hills offering quiet lanes, panoramic views, and some of the most peaceful driving in the county. The Wolds Way national trail passes through nearby villages and provides superb walking for those who want to stretch their legs after a day's drive.
Head east from Beverley and within 30 minutes you reach the coast. Hornsea, with its long sandy beach and freshwater mere, is a tranquil alternative to the busier resorts. Further north, Bridlington and Flamborough Head offer dramatic chalk cliffs, seabird colonies, and traditional seaside charm. The coastal road from Bridlington south through Hornsea and on toward Withernsea is a classic motorhome route — unhurried, scenic, and dotted with places to stop.
The town itself has a growing food and drink scene. The white-fronted pubs of the Georgian centre serve real ales and hearty food, while newer additions include speciality coffee shops, wine bars, and a growing selection of restaurants. The annual Beverley Food Festival, held each autumn, showcases the best of the East Riding's producers and is a highlight of the town's calendar.
Beverley is connected to Pontefract via the M62 and then the A63, making the journey to our depot straightforward. Whether you are starting your motorhome holiday with a morning exploring the Minster and the market, or using Beverley as a stop on a longer East Yorkshire tour, this town offers a quality of experience that lingers long after you have moved on.
