Discover Lincolnshire

If you are looking for motorhome hire in Lincolnshire, this vast county rewards those who take the time to explore. Often overlooked by travellers heading to better-known destinations, Lincolnshire offers some of the finest historic architecture in England, a dramatic coastline, rolling chalk hills, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried. From our Pontefract depot, the western edge of Lincolnshire is within an hour, and the county stretches eastward to the North Sea coast.

Lincoln Cathedral and Castle

Lincoln itself is one of England's most impressive cities. The cathedral, which dominates the skyline from its hilltop position, was for over 200 years the tallest building in the world. Its Gothic west front is one of the great sights of English architecture, and the interior contains one of only four surviving originals of the Magna Carta. Steep Hill, linking the cathedral quarter to the city below, has been voted Britain's best street and is lined with independent shops, tea rooms, and galleries. Lincoln Castle, sitting opposite the cathedral, has been beautifully restored and houses the other Lincoln Magna Carta and the Victorian prison chapel.

The Lincolnshire Wolds and Coast

The Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are the highest ground in eastern England between Yorkshire and Kent. These rolling chalk hills, cut by deep valleys, are remarkably quiet and offer excellent walking through a landscape of ancient churches, red-brick villages, and big skies. The poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson was born in Somersby in the heart of the Wolds, and his verse captures the gentle beauty of this landscape perfectly.

The Lincolnshire coast stretches from the Humber estuary in the north to the Wash in the south. Skegness and Mablethorpe are traditional seaside resorts with sandy beaches, amusement parks, and a cheerful, unpretentious atmosphere. The Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, just south of Skegness, is one of the finest birdwatching sites on the east coast, with salt marshes, sand dunes, and mudflats attracting thousands of migrating birds.

Our Motorhome Fleet

Our fleet includes 2-berth, 4-berth, and 6-berth motorhomes with both manual and automatic options, and prices starting from 135 per night. Every hire includes comprehensive insurance and 24/7 roadside support. Selected vehicles are dog-friendly, and if this is your first time hiring a motorhome, we provide a full walkthrough before you set off. Our packing checklist covers everything you need to bring.

Market Towns and Heritage

The market towns of Lincolnshire are a particular highlight. Stamford, in the far south of the county, is widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England, with its honey-coloured buildings and magnificent churches. Louth, the capital of the Wolds, has a wonderful market, an independent high street, and the tallest medieval parish church spire in England. Horncastle, famous for its antique shops, and Woodhall Spa, with its Edwardian character and connections to the Dambusters, are both worth a stop.

The International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln is one of the most important memorial sites in the country, commemorating the 57,861 men of Bomber Command who lost their lives during the Second World War. Lincolnshire was home to more bomber bases than any other county, and the flat, open landscape still bears the traces of wartime airfields. The centre includes a memorial wall, a peace garden, and an exhibition that tells the story with sensitivity and depth.

From our Pontefract depot, Lincoln is approximately 70 minutes via the A1 and A46. The East Yorkshire coast can be combined with Lincolnshire for a longer touring holiday, and Nottinghamshire borders the county to the west. Lincolnshire's coast, Wolds, and market towns all have excellent campsite provision, making it an ideal destination for motorhome touring.
