Leaving a dog behind while you go on holiday is the worst part of booking any trip. Kennels cost a fortune, dog sitters are hard to find, and the guilt stays with you for the entire break. A dog-friendly motorhome hire solves this completely - your dog comes with you, sleeps in familiar surroundings, and spends the holiday doing what dogs love most: exploring new places, new smells, and new walks. How Our Pet Policy Works
When you book with us, let us know you are bringing a dog so we can allocate a pet-friendly vehicle from our fleet and talk through the best setup for your pet. A pet fee applies to cover the professional deep clean that takes place after every dog-friendly hire, ensuring the next customer receives a spotless vehicle. We ask that dogs are clean, well-behaved, and kept under control - which is exactly how responsible dog owners manage their pets anyway.
Keeping Your Dog Safe on the Road
Dogs must be properly secured while the motorhome is moving - this is not optional. An unsecured dog in a moving vehicle is a danger to themselves and everyone else on board. The most common options are a travel crate secured in the rear, a dog harness clipped to a seatbelt, or a dog guard separating the cab from the living area. For larger dogs, a crate in the garage area of our 6-berth models works well. For smaller dogs, a seatbelt harness in the passenger area is the simplest solution.
Temperature is the other critical safety point. On warm days, a parked motorhome heats up quickly - just like a car. Never leave a dog unattended in a closed motorhome in warm weather, even with windows cracked. When you are on site, open the roof vents, use the cab blinds to block direct sun, and park in shade where possible. Our motorhomes have good cross-ventilation when set up properly, and we walk you through this at collection. The Best Dog-Walking Destinations in Britain
You collect from our Pontefract depot and some of the finest dog-walking landscapes in Britain are within easy reach.
The Yorkshire Dales (1 hour) offer miles of open moorland, riverside paths, and fell walks where dogs run off-lead across huge stretches of countryside. The riverside path from Bolton Abbey to the Cavendish Pavilion has spots where dogs can swim, and the pubs in Grassington, Malham, and Hawes are almost universally dog-friendly.
The Lake District (2.5 hours) is a dog walker's paradise. Fell walks around Keswick and Borrowdale, swimming in Derwent Water and Ullswater, and the woodland paths around Grizedale Forest. The coast at St Bees is dog-friendly year-round and connects to the Coast to Coast walk. Most Lake District pubs welcome dogs - it is part of the culture up there.
The Northumberland coast (2 hours) has vast empty beaches that dogs adore - Bamburgh, Embleton Bay, and Druridge Bay are all dog-friendly and rarely crowded even in summer. Kielder Forest is 250 square miles of woodland trails with barely another person in sight.
The Peak District (1 hour) has Stanage Edge, Padley Gorge, and the Derwent Valley. Snowdonia (3 hours) has mountain walks and the dog-friendly beaches of the Llyn Peninsula. Cornwall has hundreds of miles of coastal path and many beaches that welcome dogs outside peak summer. Scotland has some of the most dog-friendly landscapes in Europe - open access laws mean dogs can roam far more freely than in England, and the beaches on the west coast and Highlands are spectacular.
The North York Moors coastline is another favourite - clifftop walking around Whitby and Staithes, and Runswick Bay which is dog-friendly year-round. The wide heather moorland is spectacular in late summer when the purple is out.
What to Pack for Your Dog
Beyond the obvious (lead, bowls, food, poo bags), there are a few things specific to motorhome travel with a dog. Bring a towelling mat or old towels for drying off after wet walks - muddy paws on motorhome upholstery are best avoided. A portable water bowl for walks saves carrying a heavy one. If your dog sleeps on a bed at home, bring their own bed or blanket so they have a familiar scent in a new environment. A long line or training lead is useful at campsites where dogs must be on a lead but you want to give them some freedom.
We do not provide bedding for any hire - bring your own duvets and pillows for yourself, and your dog's bed for them. Everything else (kitchen equipment, gas, toilet chemicals, heating) is included. Our packing checklist covers the full list for humans - add your dog's kit on top.
Dog-Friendly Campsites
The vast majority of campsites across the UK welcome dogs. Most ask that dogs are kept on leads around the site and not left unattended in the motorhome. Many sites have designated dog-walking fields, and some are directly adjacent to footpaths and countryside walks. The Caravan and Motorhome Club and Camping and Caravanning Club sites are almost all dog-friendly, and we can recommend specific sites based on where you are heading.
For families with dogs, many of the larger holiday parks welcome pets too - so the children get the playground and pool while the dog gets the walking field.
