The marshalling is generally well organised, and once you are on site and pitched up, the rest of the weekend is yours. Bring provisions for the full weekend: while the food stalls on site are plentiful and varied, having your own kitchen for breakfast and late-night snacks is a genuine luxury.

Beyond the music, Download has developed a strong programme of comedy, signing sessions, wrestling, and other entertainment across the festival site. The signing tent, where bands meet fans and sign merchandise, is a particular highlight - the opportunity to shake hands with a musician whose album changed your life is one of those festival moments that stays with you.
