8 Motorhome-Friendly Campsites Near Whitby
Finding campsites near Whitby for a motorhome can be surprisingly tricky. Some sites have height barriers that block larger vehicles, others only accept caravans, and a few of the best-known parks are fully booked months in advance during summer. This guide covers eight campsites within easy reach of Whitby that genuinely welcome motorhomes, with pitch prices, facilities, and what makes each one worth your time.
All of these motorhome sites near Whitby are accessible from our Pontefract depot - Whitby is approximately ninety minutes up the A64 and A169 across the North York Moors, one of the finest drives in Yorkshire.
1. Whitby Holiday Park
Set on the clifftop overlooking Saltwick Bay, Whitby Holiday Park is the most convenient site for walking into town. The position is striking - sea views stretch along the North Yorkshire coastline, and Whitby Abbey is visible in the distance. You can walk down into the harbour in about twenty minutes on a well-surfaced path via the Cleveland Way. Both hardstanding and grass pitches are available for motorhomes with 16 amp electric hookup. On-site facilities include the Jet Bar and Bistro, a shop selling everyday essentials, a children's play area, and a laundrette. The park is dog-friendly with up to two dogs per pitch. Expect to pay around £28-£38 per night depending on season. The main drawback is that it can feel busy during peak weeks, but the location is hard to beat.
2. Sandfield House Farm Caravan Park
About a mile north-west of Whitby on the Sandsend road, Sandfield House Farm is a quieter alternative with a genuinely rural feel despite being close to town. The site is family-run, immaculately maintained, and has been welcoming visitors since the 1930s. All pitches are hardstanding with electric hookup, and most have sea views - though the site cannot guarantee a sea view from every pitch. Facilities include a modern shower block, washing-up area, laundry room, a tennis court, and a children's play area. Pitches run from approximately £25-£35 per night. The Cleveland Way runs right past the site, and you can walk along the coast path to Sandsend village in about thirty minutes. Important for motorhome hirers: Sandfield House Farm does not accept vehicles over 5 tonnes, so check your vehicle weight before booking. The park is open from late February to early November.
3. York House Caravan Park, Hawsker
Set across ten acres of North Yorkshire countryside in the village of Hawsker, York House is a five-minute drive from Whitby and five minutes from Robin Hood's Bay. The park has hardstanding and gravel pitches for motorhomes with optional 16 amp metered electric hookup. Facilities include a heated shower and toilet block, a laundrette, an on-site bar and café serving breakfasts and home-cooked meals, a children's play area, and a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, you can access the Cinder Track - the old Whitby to Scarborough railway line, now a popular cycling and walking route. There is a local pub in the village and a bus stop with regular services to Whitby and Scarborough. Pitches start from around £20-£30 per night, with electric metered separately. Note that some pitches are on sloping ground, so levelling blocks are worth bringing.
4. Hooks House Farm, Robin Hood's Bay
One of the best-located campsites near Whitby for a motorhome is Hooks House Farm on the Yorkshire Coast, sitting in open farmland above Robin Hood's Bay with sweeping views down to the village and out to sea. It is about six miles south of Whitby. The site is a working farm run by the Halder family and offers both grass and hardstanding pitches with electric hookup. The toilet and shower block is clean and well maintained, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. A footpath through the fields leads directly down to the village in about ten to fifteen minutes. Motorhomes are welcome, though you should book in advance during summer as it fills quickly. Budget around £25-£32 per night. Note that the site is on sloping ground - levelling chocks are useful. The village has several pubs and a fish and chip shop for evening meals.
5. Middlewood Farm Holiday Park, Fylingthorpe
Just inland from Robin Hood's Bay, Middlewood Farm occupies a sheltered position in the Fylingdales area with well-kept grounds and excellent facilities. The site has won multiple awards and it shows - the pitches are generous, the shower block is modern, and the overall standard is high. Motorhome pitches are available on both grass and hardstanding with 10 amp electric hookup. There is a small shop, an information room with local walking guides, and a children's play area. Pitches cost approximately £28-£40 per night. The beach is about a fifteen-minute walk away, and Robin Hood's Bay village is roughly ten minutes on foot. Important: Middlewood Farm has a maximum vehicle length of 7.2 metres for motorhome pitches, so check your vehicle dimensions before booking - some larger hire motorhomes may exceed this.
6. Runswick Bay Caravan and Camping Park
About six miles north of Whitby, Runswick Bay is one of the loveliest beaches on the Yorkshire coast - a wide sweep of sand backed by dramatic cliffs, far quieter than Whitby or Scarborough. The campsite is a small, family-run park with 32 pitches, all with electric hookup, and some with hardstanding. The facilities are straightforward but well maintained, including a shower block, washing-up area, and laundry. The beach is about a ten-minute walk via a steep path. Runswick Bay village has a pub (the Runswick Bay Hotel) and a few cottages. The Cleveland Way runs nearby, so you can walk the coast path in either direction. Pricing note: charges are per person rather than per pitch - adults pay around £13 per night with electric, with children at reduced rates. The park is dog-friendly and dogs are welcome on the beach. It is a genuine hidden gem that most tourists drive straight past.
7. Ladycross Lodge and Touring Park, Egton
Set in 95 acres of mature woodland between Egton and Grosmont, Ladycross is a peaceful, well-sheltered site that feels genuinely secluded despite being just five miles from Whitby. The surrounding woodland makes it particularly attractive in autumn, with over two miles of woodland walks leading to a secluded pond. Motorhomes are welcome on hardstanding and serviced pitches with electric hookup. The facilities are good and the site is well managed by its family owners. The Esk Valley is within easy reach, and Grosmont - one of the main stations on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - is just down the road. Budget around £26-£36 per night. Egton Bridge, about a mile away, hosts the famous Gooseberry Show each August and has the Horseshoe Hotel for evening meals.
8. Grouse Hill Caravan Park, Fylingdales
Situated off the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough, Grouse Hill is a well-established, family-run park with an AA 4 Pennant Gold Award rating. The site extends over 14 acres on a south-facing slope with views across a wooded valley to heather-covered moorland - locals call the natural amphitheatre "Paradise." Pitches are on grass (there is no hardstanding for tourers) with electric hookup available. Facilities include three toilet and shower blocks, an on-site shop, a children's adventure play area, a sports field, a freshwater lake, and woodland walks within the park. The Flask Inn pub is within easy walking distance for food and drinks. Pitches run from approximately £24-£34 per night. Robin Hood's Bay is about a mile and a half walk downhill (and a steeper walk back up), and the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track are both accessible nearby. The park is open from mid-March to mid-October.
Booking Tips for Campsites Near Whitby
Most of these sites take online bookings and many now require advance booking during school holidays and summer weekends. If you are visiting between July and August, book as early as possible - the popular sites near Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby itself can sell out weeks in advance. Shoulder season (May-June, September-October) is easier, and many sites offer lower rates.
